President Mahama halts Military recruitment after deadly stampede, confirms all six victims were females

.Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, has ordered the Ghana Armed Forces to suspend military recruitment processes following a tragic incident at the Elwak Stadium in Accra, where six people lost their lives and 12 others were critically injured in a stampede as he confirmed that all six victims were females

“The tragic news is that I have been informed by the military that six young women, who simply sought an opportunity to serve their nation, lost their lives in this heartbreaking incident. We are praying for the 12 others who remain in critical condition,” the President said.

The President expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, stating, “Government will ensure pragmatic measures to prevent such occurrences”.

 He also revealed that he has visited the injured at the hospital and assured that the government will provide support for their recovery.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Nkoko Nketenkete program in Kumasi, President Mahama emphasized the need for caution and safety in such recruitment processes.

This incident has raised concerns about the management of large crowds and the safety protocols in place.

The stampede occurred during a recruitment drive, highlighting the need for better crowd control and emergency response planning.

 The Ghana Armed Forces have yet to comment on the specifics of the incident, but the President’s swift action indicates a commitment to addressing the issue.
