Unemployed Trained Teachers raises alarm over alleged ‘secret’ GES recruitment
The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (2023 Graduates) has expressed deep concern over what it describes as credible and growing allegations of “secret” recruitment within the Ghana Education Service (GES).
In a press statement issued on Saturday, December 6, the group revealed that it has received multiple reports suggesting that teaching appointments are being influenced by political and local government authorities.
According to the coalition, the allegations include claims that certain Members of Parliament (MPs), District Chief Executives (DCEs), and Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs) are allegedly facilitating appointment letters for individuals in exchange for personal benefits or as acts of political patronage.
“These allegations include claims of undue influence by certain individuals, including MPs, DCEs and MCEs, who are reportedly securing appointment letters for individuals for self-interest and in exchange for personal gains.”
The group warned that such practices if verified would represent a major breach of the long-standing principles of transparency, equity, and meritocracy that are expected to guide GES recruitment exercises.
“We emphasise that these allegations, if true, undermine the principles of transparency and fairness that have historically guided GES recruitment processes,” the coalition stated, calling on the public to assist in bringing clarity to the matter.
They urged anyone with relevant information to come forward as they continue gathering evidence and engaging stakeholders to ensure accountability.
The coalition further announced plans for what it calls a “mega demonstration” aimed at compelling authorities to address the alleged recruitment irregularities and to expedite the placement of 2023-trained teacher graduates who remain unemployed.
Organisers say the demonstration will culminate at the Jubilee House, where members intend to remain until the official recruitment process begins.
In a rallying call to its members, the coalition encouraged teachers to inform their parents, guardians, and family supporters to join the mass protest once the date is officially announced.
“We remain committed to ensuring that the rights of our members are protected and will take necessary actions accordingly,” the statement read.
