Campaign on ideas and not insults – Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh

The 2024 New Patriotic Party Running mate, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, has expressed the view that, there will always be tensions and incidents during internal campaigns.

In a statement on his Facebook page on Thursday, January 22,2026, Dr Prempeh said that “notwithstanding, they must never descend into insults, aggression, or violence.”

“Such conduct has no place in our party and does not reflect our values. We must do what is necessary to contest ideas and positions, but we must also leave room for reconciliation. When the internal campaign ends, we must be able to return to one another as one party, united in purpose and ready to move forward together,” he added.

Dr Prempeh urged all party members to uphold decorum in the leadup to the party’s flagbearer race scheduled for January 31,2026.

He encouraged aspirants and their supporters to desist from insults during the campaign, as these actions further tear the party apart.

“I want this flagbearership election to be conducted with decorum. We’re not in a campaign of insults, and we should not be in a campaign of insults. It should be about ideas. And that is what will capture the imagination of Ghanaians,” Dr Prempeh stressed,
