‘Abodam’ arrested for exhuming dead body at Tafo

A 27-year-old mentally retarded man has been arrested by the Akyem Tafo police in the Eastern region for allegedly exhuming the corpse of Kwame Korankye at the Akyem Tafo cemetery  on Thursday, December 14, 2017.

According to Otec news reporter Nana Boro, the suspect, whose only name was given as Atta or Abodam, was caught by the residents digging out the corpse from the coffin with a pick, disarmed and sent to the police station.

A resident who was among those who caused the arrest of the suspect said they got a hint from a carpenter that somebody was at cemetery gigging out a grave.

“I saw Atta parading the street up and down for a number of times, some few minutes later, the carpenter and told us that somebody was at the cemetery digging out a grave. We quickly organized ourselves, went to the cemetery and saw Atta with a pickaxe taking out the corpse from the coffin. We disarmed him and sent him to the police station,” he narrated.

 

“Before sending him to the police station, we asked him why he was doing that and he said the family of the deceased had refused to pay him after helping them in the burial,” he added.

A sister to the deceased, Akua Krofah, speaking to Otec news said “I was in the house when someone came and told us that a certain man has been caught at the cemetery digging out a grave and I never knew it was my brother. It was later that my uncle told me the corpse was my own brother Kwame Korankye. In fact, if I had known I would have gone there and cut off the hand of that crazy man,” she angrily said.

The body has since been reburied, according to Otec news reporter.
