Cocoa farmers in Ashanti Region threaten mass demo over possible price cut

Cocoa farmers in Ghana’s Ashanti Region are warning of a massive demonstration against the government if there’s any further reduction in cocoa prices.
Speaking to OTEC News on Wednesday , farmers in Ahafo Ano South East District expressed frustration over alleged plans for a price cut.
They citing consistent neglect by the government and industry players worsening their livelihoods.
The farmers’ threat follows hints from the minority in parliament about a possible price reduction, amidst declining cocoa production in the area.
“We are calling on them to maintain the current ₵2,485 price per 64kg bag. Any further reduction will force us onto the streets,” said a farmer.
