Police confirm killing of Berekum Chelsea’s player by armed robbers, launch manhunt

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed the killing of a footballer, Dominic Frimpong, in an armed robbery attack on a bus carrying the Berekum Chelsea team, and has launched a manhunt for the suspects.
The attack according to a press release by the Ghana Police Service occurred on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at about 10:30 pm, along the Ahyiresu-Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District.
According to police reports on Monday , the team was traveling in a VIP bus with registration number AM 9334-20 when they were attacked by six armed men, three of whom were wielding pump-action guns.
Frimpong sustained fatal gunshot injuries and died while receiving treatment at the Bibiani Government Hospital.
“The Police assure the public that the perpetrators will be arrested within the shortest possible time,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs Unit/Ash.
Two spent BB cartridges were retrieved from the scene to aid in the investigation.
The police have deployed additional personnel and Crime Scene experts to the area to aid in the investigation.
The public is urged to remain calm and cooperate with the police.
