Ghana Water Limited to shut down Barekese Water treatment plant for critical repairs

Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced a temporary shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant to carry out urgent repair works on the transmission pipeline serving the Kumasi Metropolitan Area and surrounding communities.
According to a press release issued by the company, the shutdown will begin at 6:00 am on Tuesday, 9th June 2026, and is expected to last until 6:00 am on Thursday, 11th June 2026.
The management of GWL stated that the repair works are essential to safeguard the integrity of the transmission pipeline and ensure the long-term reliability of water supply in the region.
“Management of Ghana Water Limited regrets any inconvenience that may result from this critical maintenance exercise,” the statement read.
Customers have been advised to store adequate water for use during the two-day shutdown period.
The company assured residents that water production and supply will be restored immediately upon completion of the repair works.
Management also expressed appreciation for the understanding, patience, and cooperation of its customers.
According to the statement, the maintenance exercise forms part of GWL’s efforts to enhance the sustainability and reliability of water services in the Ashanti Region.
