NPP tasks legal team to review Chairman Wontumi’s conviction for possible reversal

The New Patriotic Party, NPP, has revealed that it has tasked its legal team to review the conviction of its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, for a possible reversal.

Chairman Wontumi and his company, Akonta Mining Limited, were recently sentenced to 20 years in prison by an Accra High Court for the unlawful assignment of mineral rights without ministerial approval.

Addressing a press briefing on Monday, the General Secretary for the Party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the NPP is not satisfied with the outcome of the case and believes justice was not served.

According to Mr. Kodua, the party will follow the case to its logical conclusion and explore all legal avenues available to challenge the conviction.

He added that the NPP remains committed to defending its members and ensuring that due process is upheld in matters affecting party executives and supporters.
