Manhyia South MP screens over 800 residents in free eye care and surgical outreach

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South Constituency, Hon. Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has organized a Free Eye Care and Surgical Screening exercise for residents in the area.
According to organizers, over 800 members of the constituency were screened during the exercise
Beneficiaries received medical support including eye glasses and medication, while others were booked for free surgeries.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah explained the motive behind the initiative and pledged to make it an annual program.
“The idea is to bring healthcare closer to the people, especially eye care which many cannot afford. This will be a yearly exercise so that no one in Manhyia South suffers needlessly from preventable blindness.”
The Medical Team from the Eye Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, KATH, led by Dr. Asante, took part in the screening.
Dr. Asante emphasized the importance of regular eye checks in preventing avoidable vision loss.
“Screening helps us detect eye conditions early. When we catch them early, treatment is easier and we can save people’s sight. We commend the MP for bringing this service to the people.”
Some residents who benefited from the exercise expressed excitement and gratitude to their MP.
They said the free screening, glasses, and promise of surgeries will go a long way to improve their quality of life.
Party executives in the constituency also supported the program.
They described the outreach as timely and a demonstration of the MP’s commitment to the health and welfare of constituents.
All executives present pledged their continued support for similar initiatives in the future.
