Offinso: Chief of Aburokyire dies from machete wounds; suspect lynched
The Chief of Aburokyire, a farming community in Offinso in the Ashanti Region, Nana Osei Bonsu, has died after he was attacked with a machete by a 22-year-old man.
Nana Osei Bonsu died at the St. Patrick Hospital in Offinso where he was receiving treatment after sustaining severe machete wounds.
The attack follows an earlier incident on Saturday, September 12, 2026, where the suspect, identified only as Awineme, allegedly murdered a caretaker farmer of the chief, Osei Kwabena, in a bush.
Speaking to OTEC News reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng, a resident said the suspect returned home drenched in blood and announced that he had killed the farmer.
When the chief confronted him to understand what had happened, the suspect turned on him and inflicted the machete wounds.
The suspect later attempted to attack another person, which angered some youth in the area who lynched him.
“He was beaten with sticks after all attempts to stop him proved futile,” the resident recounted.
The bodies of the chief, the farmer, and the suspect have been deposited at the morgue as police commence investigations.
