Over 3,000 Police Officers deployed as tight security takes over Baba Yara Stadium for  NPP National  Delegates Conference

Security is water-tight  at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, where the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is holding its National Delegates Conference to elect new national executives.

A member of the elections planning Committee, Anthony Abeyifa Carbo said the Ghana Police Service has deployed over 3,000 police officers to protect lives and properties and to ensure a peaceful, incident-free conference.

From the main gates of the stadium to the inner perimeter, the heavy security presence is unmistakable.

Uniformed officers, plain-clothes personnel, Counter-Terrorism units, and officers from the Ashanti Regional Police Command have taken strategic positions around the entire enclave.

All major roads leading to the stadium – from Asafo Interchange, Amakom, and Stadium Roundabout – have been temporarily blocked and diverted, with thorough checks and screening of delegates, media personnel, and party supporters before entry.

Speaking to the media, Police authorities say the massive deployment is to maintain law and order, prevent any breach of security, and ensure the safety of thousands of delegates who have trooped in from all 16 regions.

So far, the exercise has been peaceful and highly coordinated.

Accreditation is ongoing under heavy security supervision, while voting is expected to commence under the watchful eyes of security and Electoral Commission officials.

Delegates we spoke to have commended the Ghana Police Service for the high level of professionalism and orderliness.

We are still on the ground and will bring you more updates as the election of national executives unfolds.
