Ashanti Regional Police Commander calls for media support to fight crime

The new Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kwesi Mensa Duku, has called on the media to partner with the police in fighting crime  especially land guards, armed robbers  as well as rival terror gangs in the region.

According to DCOP Kwesi Mensa Duku, since the media was knowledgeable in issues concerning the society especially at the grassroots, they would be more reliable to relay information to the police to enable them curb criminal activities.

He stated that both static and mobile patrol activities will be intensified while new police stations are opened in developing areas.

The new regional commander made the appeal in Kumasi on Wednesday June 20, 2018 at a press briefing to outline his vision for the region after taking over from DCOP Ken Yeboah who has been transferred to the police headquarters as Director of Technical Services following the recent re-shuffle.

DCOP Kwesi Mensa Duku called on the media to help educate the public on issues such as preserving crime scenes for the police and informing the police about criminal activities.

DCOP Mensah Duku called for public support by volunteering information to help police to maintain law and order.

“I would also appeal to the general public to give us credible and important information on criminals to enable the command act decisively to improve the relative peace being enjoyed.”

DCOP Mensah Duku warns rioters who attack police stations would also be dealt with in an effort to combat terror activities.

“The region as it is today is relatively peaceful and secure, conducive for socio-economic development without fear of crime and intimidation of any person.

Languardism and rival gang attacks would be fought fiercely,” he warned.

‘’It said lawlessness and indiscipline on the part of individuals who, under the guise of protecting their lands, mobilised young men and resourced them with all kinds of offensive weapons to cause mayhem and terrorise innocent people immensely undermined law and order’’, he observed.

He however declared war on land guards whose activities create insecurity in the region.

DCOP Mensah Duku said his administration would no longer wait to combat armed robbers when they strike but will rather take the fight to their doorsteps.
