Zimbabwe FA chairman to Sue CAF for 50 million pounds
Zimbabwe FA chairman Phillip Chiyangwa is set to file a 50 million pound lawsuit against the Confederation of African football (CAF) for what he calls libelous publication about him by the confederation.
Lawyer for the Zimbabwe FA chairman, Itai Ndudzo told Osei Akoto Kanu on Otec Royal sports that the amount is to compensate for the malicious damage done to the image of Mr. Chiyangwa by the actions of the general secretary of CAF per the instructions of the president of CAF.
Phillip Chiyangwa and his legal team are unhappy that a birthday party he hosted in Harare on 23 February which had FIFA president Gianni Infantino as star attraction has become a matter to be discussed by Caf’s Executive Committee next week.
The bash has caused tension between Chiyangwa and CAF president Issa Hayatou amid allegations that the continental football supremo is concerned that the event was a smoke-screen behind a plot to unseat him.
CAF secretary general Hicham El Amrani wrote to Chiyangwa two weeks ago expressing reservations about the gathering in Harare, warning that it could attract sanctions.
Caf had warned Chiywanga that hosting the gathering would be seen as “an attempt to destabilise” the body.
He claims that Mr. Chiywanga responded to the letter from Hicham El Amrani and explained that the gathering was just a birthday bash which had nothing to do with football politics.
Itai Ndudzo contends that the issues raised only seek to malign and invade the privacy of his client because there is neither any objectivity nor good faith in the issues raised by the CAF president and his General secretary.
”what is most hurtful is the widespread publication of the issue which in our part of the world would be seen as libelous and defamatory.”
”The courts must be able to look into the matter and must be able to compensate the president of the Zimbabwe FA president for the damage he has suffered to his good name and image”, he concluded.
