Akufo-Addo lied to Ghanaians – Asiedu Nketia

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has lashed out at President Akufo-Addo over the size of his government.

According to him, the new government has “let down the masses” because during the electioneering the then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) promised to “cut down the size of the government” when it comes to power.

Speaking on the issue, Mr. Nketia told host starr fm that it will mean the expenditure of the government on emoluments will increase.

“If you are on the Progressive part of government, you are likely to end up with a bigger government.

“Increasing the size of government will mean spending of too much money to run the country… NPP mentioned that they will cut down on government. Unfortunately, they are increasing the numbers,” General Mosquito, as he is affectionately called, asserted.

Mr. Nketia added: “They have let down the masses that they will cut down the size of government. They have ended up with a bigger government… they should come out to explain to us.”

President Akufo-Addo will be announcing a 50-member deputy ministerial list soon, which will make his government the biggest so far under the Fourth Republic. So far, 46 ministers have been vetted and sworn into office.

The previous NPP government led by former President John Kufuor had 88 ministers while the Mills administration that succeeded it had 69 ministerial appointees. The Mahama administration, however, had 78 ministerial appointments.
