Respect the rule of law to avoid force – MP Warns

A Member of Parliament (MP) for Manso Nkwanta in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region, Joseph Albert Quarm has warned illegal miners (galamseyers) to respect the rule if law and move from their various sites to avoid Task Force enforcement.

According to him, some of the illegal miners have obeyed the three weeks ultimatum issued by the lands and natural resources minister, Hon. John Peter Amewu and have packed their excavators and other tools whiles others are still working at their various sites leading to destruction of our water bodies, farms, trees and natural resources.

Speaking on otec fm, Hon. Joseph Albert Quarm stressed that in accordance to the 2015 mining and minerals Act, the lands and Natural resource Minister has been empowered to cease and destroy all the excavators and other tools use by the illegal miners.

He stated that when task force which includes  Police and soldiers are deployed to halt the activities of illegal miners,  it could be in an unpleasant manner and as such would be better for any illegal miner to respect the rule of law and exit the various sites.

Mr. Albert therefore assured that livelihood alternative measures such as planting for food and jobs, Youth Employment Agency, 1 village 1 Dam, 1 District 1milion US dollars have been put in to absorb and create jobs for those who might be affected by the operation.

He also disclosed that plans are under way to claim all the distroyed lands and put them into productive use.
