Let’s be weary of our comments about EC impasse – Acherensuamanhene
The Omanhene of Acherensua in the Brong Ahafo Region, Nana Prof. Agyewodin Adugyamfi Ampem has cautioned Ghanaians to be weary of their comments about the row at EC especially when they have liitle knowledge about the issue.
He was contributing to the alleged rot at the EC in which the Chairperson, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, is being accused by some concern staff of the Electoral Commission.
According to Nana Adugyamfi, many ill-informed persons have jumped on radio to comment on the issue without knowing the facts of the matter, a situation he claims could affect the integrity of the electoral commission.
”It is true that we are in a democratic dispensation, but we should speak only when we have something to say and not speak because we want to”.
Nana Adugyamfi Ampem told an Accra based radio station that though the issues are already in the public domain, the appropriate authorities should be allowed to handle the impasse and find an amicable solution to it.
”I am not saying we should not criticise illegal or dishonest behaviour but we ought to investigate and find out the facts of the matter before putting it in the public domain for Ghanaians to comment on both social and traditional media”.
He advised that villifying the EC on social and traditional media without any facts could cause the commission to lose face in the eyes of the international community.
Tensions at the EC were dragged into the public domain after some employees of Commission petitioned President Nana Akufo-Addo to remove Charlotte Osei from office for alleged financial malfeasance.
Mrs. Osei rubbished the allegations and fired some of her own, accusing her deputies of various forms of malfeasance.
