Peace council must work on their credibility – Fuseini

Minority spokesperson on Communication, Hon. A.B.A. Fuseini has charged the National peace council to work on their credibility by being apt and prompt in their response to issues of national peace.

His comments come in the wake of the resignation of deputy Agric minister after making unsavoury comments about the people of the Three northern regions.

The MP for Sagnarigu expressed displeasure at the calls by the Christian and peace councils for persons affected by the minister’s comments to let sleeping dogs lie.

”Look these institutions must work on their credibility well, when some of these things were happening and there were general complains that this was bad discourse, the didn’t issue any statement to condemn what the man said, they only came in to be pleading that we should let sleeping dogs lie”, he fumed.

Hon. Fuseini cautioned the councils to be weary of their inactions and failure to condemn wrong doing on the part of people in authority because it is not good for their image, adding that, it could affect their credibility if they decide to issue only statements of convenience.

He noted that, a non-partisan matter of this nature is what such institutions must respond to and help the country’s democratic process so that political appointees will learn to speak people with decorum and respect, and not flaunt arrogance on their faces.

”Sometimes it’s hard to comment on such issues but it is necessary, so sometimes these leaders in some of our civil society organisations must live up to the credibility that people accord them.

According to him these organisations choose to be quite on important issues until they get to a head before they begin to make appeals for calm.

”Who will mind you, your credibility will be at stake so they should watch”, he concluded.
