Four security personnel shot by Fulani at Asante Akyim Agogo

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed the shooting of four personnel of the ‘Operation Cow Leg’, stationed at Agog in the Asante Akyim North district of the Ashanti region, by Fulani nomands, on Monday December 8, 2018.

The ‘Operation Cow Leg’, a joint military and police security personnel, was instituted by the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to station at Agogo and its environs, is to check the activities of nomadic Fulani herdsmen whose cattle have been destroying farms.

It is also to ensure that cattle from other regions, particularly the Eastern Region, do not stray into the area for grazing.

Speaking in an interview with Otec News, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Police Command, ACP Juliana Obeng said the four, consists of three military and a police officer, are now receiving medical treatment at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital at Agogo.

“The incident occurred Monday afternoon when the military men stormed an area where the nomads were feeding their cattle, I cannot say for now what really caused the incident. Now our main concentration is to see to the welfare of the shot security personnel,” she said.

“The Command has detailed some security personnel to Asante Akyim to ascertain what really happened, and very soon the Command will come out with what really transpired to necessitate the shootings,” she added.
