Deputy General Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) KOKU Anyidoho has dismissed research findings by the political science department of the university of Ghana.
The research largely revealed that majority of Ghanaians were satisfied with the performance of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) one year into their administration.
It has been exactly 12 months since Nana Akufo-Addo was sworn into office as President of Ghana following a landslide victory over the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) John Dramani Mahama. In one-year the NPP has undertaken some initiatives, with the government promising more in 2018.
The research conducted suggests that majority of Ghanaians are satisfied with the work done by the NPP government so far and still prefer them to the opposition NDC. Head of Political Science Department at the University of Ghana, Dr. Bossman Asare said the Free SHS Policy rolled out by government is the most endearing to the Ghanaian people.
According to him, the government’s resolve to restore the nurses and teacher trainee allowances is also one move that has made her popular among Ghanaians. He added that the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey has also impressed majority of the citizenry.
He added that the Nana Addo government has hit over 62% in terms of popularity, but Ghanaians still expect more from them.
According to him the NHIS in particular is “not so perfect” but many of the respondents “thought that it has seen some revival.”
Speaking in an interview with OTEC NEWS, the outspoken deputy NDC general secretary believes the findings according to the report does not tally with the number of Ghanaians considering a sample size of 5000 people out of the over 25,000,000.
Again Mr. Anyidoho stated that the NPP still have the heart of many Ghanaians since they are just a year old in power hence not bothered about the fact people still have faith in them.
Koku Anyidoho however stressed that the findings will not mount any pressure on the NDC since they are focused on how to recapture power in 2020.
