Foase schools shut down after bloody clashes
Some schools at Foase the Atwima Kwanwoma District in the Ashanti Region have been shut down following bloody clashes between residents and the security personnel.
The action has been necessitated by fears of an escalation of violence in the area.
According to Otecnews’ reporter, Jacob Agyenim Boateng who is at the scene reported that, some pupils of Foase D/A basic school , Foase D/A JHS and Foase Methodist primary and JHS have been asked to go home by their teachers due to the disturbance.
Two people were confirmed dead and ten others injured after Police allegedly opened fire on some youth who were demonstrating against the relocation of their district capital from Foase to Twedie.
The injured, according to Police sources, also include police officers.
The angry youth reportedly locked up the District Chief Executive (DCE), Nana Okyere Tawiah in his office and also blocked roads amid the burning of tyres.
The Police who arrived on the volatile situation fired teargas and warning shots before being able to set free the lockedup DCE.
A court ruling in 2012 directed the relocation of the capital and authorities have instituted measures to abide by the ruling.
