DCE Burns Illegal Minning Equipments

The district chief executive of Bosome Freho in the Ashanti region, Hon. Yaw Danso has set ablaze ten mining equipments which belonged to alleged illegal miners operating on river anuru at Owhimase.

Hon. Yaw Danso told the media that he took this bold decision without the knowledge of the security agencies because the illegal miners had threatened to kill the chief of the area, after he tried to warn them to stop the devastation they were causing to their land and river.

” I went to the minning site with my driver and my secretary to see things for myself and when i got there, they denied knowledge of who owned the mining equipments so i boldly set them ablaze”.

He therefore cautioned all illegal miners who have turned ”deaf ears” to the president’s directive and are still operating, that, he will persue them one after the other until galamsey operations are totally eradicated from his district.

According to him, if his Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah has boldly promised to put his presidency on the line in his quest to end the scourge of illegal mining to safeguard Ghana’s future, he is also not worried whose ox was gored in the fight against illegal mining or galamsey in his district.

The chief of the community, Nana Takyi noted that,  aside the destruction galamsey is causing to their lands and river, the operations of these illegal miners have caused most of the youth of school going age to stop schooling

” They are also to blame for the rise in teenage pregnancy because most of these young girls are being impregnated by these galamseyers.”

Bosome Freho in the past 3 years has recorded the highest cases of teenage pregnancies in the whole of the Ashanti region.

He therefore appealed to the district chief executive of the area and the President to support the district in fighting the canker.
