
Deputy Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has cut a sod for the construction of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Academy at Jachie in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region, to facilitate the learning of science.
He said the construction of the STEM Academy will restructure and orient the educational system in the country so that Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics become the driving force for the development of the nation.
Hon. Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosomtwe constituency in the Ashanti region, during a ceremony on Monday, July 2, 2018, said it also forms part in fulfilling the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s promise of reforming the country’s education.
“The focus of the establishment of this Academy what is to restructure and reorient our educational system so that Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics become the driving force in the development of this country. STEM will improve the quality of learning for the students who will use ideas given them to transform the nation,” he said.
“In the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2016 manifesto we realized that Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Academy will be a key to transform the nation for that matter and as part of our educational reforms, STEM Academy would be implemented,” he added.
Deputy Minister of Education recounted how the Ministry, through the STEM project has helped Ghanaian students.
“Last year students were given the opportunity to study at STEM abroad; as am speaking now, eight in Russia, three in Hungary, five in China. Am expecting twenty students to study at STEM abroad this year and ensuring that those who are here are well resourced to achieve the purpose of this project,” he assured.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bosomtwe District Assembly, Hon. Joseph Kwasi Asuming, on his part said education, which is among the top priorities of the NPP government, will put up mechanisms needed to make it lucrative and attractive for the transformation of the economy.
