A member of the Ashanti regional communications team for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Opoku Mensah, has said the teacher lincencing policy will afford teachers the opportunity to develop themselves as well as get used to current trends in the teaching field.
According to him, the teacher lincencure system together with its quality assurance aspect would be one of the major tools for the delivery of quality education in the country.
Speaking on Otec Fm’s afternoon political talk show, “Dwabrem” the NPP communicator pointed out that the lincencure makes provision for serving teachers to seek constant development on the job training through regular in-service training and other professional courses.
He emphasized that the lincencure will clear all doubt about whether or not teaching is a full profession compared to others.
Although the introduction of the licensing examination was met with a lot of agitations by some teacher associations in the country, Opoku Mensah believes its a worthy cause that needs to be supported by Ghanaians.
He commended the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, for rolling policies that would transform the education sector for quality education delivery.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that teachers will now have to pass a special examination before being granted the licence to teach.
The move is to enforce discipline and eliminate non-performing teachers from the system, in accordance with the new Teachers Licencing Policy under the Education Act 778 (2008).
