Those responsible for castle lawn must answer for allowing De-Eye group there – Minister
The Minister of State in charge of National Security wants the people responsible for manning the Christiansborg Castle lawn to be held responsible for allowing De-Eye Group to use the premises for its activities.
In a Facebook post, Bryan Acheampong explained that the National Security had evicted the group from the Castle, which is the former seat of government in October.
According to him, the National Security is not aware of the groups return to the Castle since then save for an end of year party they hosted there.
“…since it’s [the Castle] no longer a security installation our interest ended when we determined the purpose of gathering and satisfied ourselves extensively that they pose no threats…”
He added that “those responsible for managing the castle lawn must answer why they allowed these people on their space.”
The Infomation Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah noted in his response to the documentary that the facility is under the management of Museums and Monuments Board.
Joy News exposé
The Minister’s comments come on the back of a Joy News exposé which detailed the activities of the group which operates as a private militia, bearing allegiance to the governing NPP.
The group uses the Osu Castle for its meetings and training. Joy News’ Manasseh Azure Awuni who led the investigation said filming of their activities was done in December 2018, defeating government’s position that the group was cleared in October same year.
The leader of the group, Nana Wireko alias ‘Choman,’ is a former personal bodyguard of President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The government insists the group is a company that solicits jobs for its clients as a fee.
Meanwhile, the Director of Communications said in reply to the documentary that his “checks from National Security have revealed that no such group is operating from the Castle.”
He also said, “the President has no knowledge of the alleged activities of this said group, let alone sanction their activities.”
