Ahead of 2020 elections: Ghana could plunge into civil war – Odike
Mr. Akwasi Addae Odike, the leader and founder of United Progressive Party has warned that Ghana could drift into civil war ahead of the 2020 crucial general elections if those in charge of affairs fail to alleviate the masses from the den of poverty.
According to the maverick politician, happenings in the country in relation to stuck poverty and insecurity were synonymous to those countries thorn by civil wars stating that failure on the part of Ghanaian leaders to offer citizens equal opportunity to resources could be a recipe for civil unrest.
The Businessman cum politician Mr. Akwasi Addae, who made the disclosure last Friday on 31st August, 2019 during Otecfm’s Dawberem political hosted by Agya Owusu Ansah also made wild claims that Ghana’s democracy was a “fake one” since it has not helped bridge the gap between the poor and rich after almost three decades of democratic dispensation.
He insisted,” Ghana’s democracy is fake. The way we have practiced it over the years I believe the expected developments are not forthcoming. The gap between the haves and have nots are widening, while few people are raking in our resources. The whole resources are drifting into the coffers of only few people in charge and this not democracy. I see civil war so close because some of the developments that caused unrest in other parts of Africa countries are rife in Ghana.”
The UPP founder further accused the main two parties (NDC and NPP) of doing nothing in the fight against corruption adding that rising corruption cases recorded in the country in recent times was taking the shine out of Ghana’s democracy.
Mr. Akwasi Addae Odike posited further that more Ghanaians were becoming apprehensive towards the way and means Ghana was adopting to fighting the canker of corruption which was milking the state of its scares resources and revenues.
He pounced,” both parties have failed in the fight against corruption. The NPP have put in measures but the approach I see it is a complete failure because there was no need for someone to commit the crime before the Special Prosecutor starts pursuing the suspects. The introduction of the Free SHS by the Nana Addo is good but more appointees have embezzled more millions than what is being invested in this program.”
Mr. Akwasi Addae Odike who claimed that he masterminded the defeat of Mr. John Dramani Mahama in the 2016 general elections warned President Nana Addo to sit up since he was also falling into similar accusations adding that he has failed to fulfill most of his political campaign promises made to Ghanaians in 2016 elections.
