Akufo-Addo condemns lynching of 90-year-old woman, calls for swift investigation

President Akufo-Addo has joined Ghanaians across the country in condemning the gruesome murder of 90-year-old woman Akua Denteh.

Madam Akua Denteh was lynched in broad daylight at Kafaba in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region for alleged witchcraft accusation by a fetish priestess.

The President who described the act as barbaric and unfortunate urged the security to conduct a speedy delivery of justice into the matter.

“We should all work together to ensure that never again do such acts disfigure the face of our nation. I hope that the quick response of the police will lead to the rapid administration of justice in this unfortunate matter,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo made this known during the commissioning of a five million cedi water project at Yapei in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region.

Chairman of the Savannah Regional Security Council, Salifu Adam Braimah had earlier indicated that his outfit has set up a foundation to honour in Akua Danteh and assured the President that progress is been made towards the apprehension and prosecution of suspects involved in the murder of the 90-year-old.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo pledged to make a contribution to the Foundation as a way of expressing his displeasure about the sad incident and ensuring that the act is curtailed.
