NDC women protest 2020 polls results in Kumasi

Women supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti region have hit the streets in protest of the results of the 2020 polls.

According to the women, who converged at the party’s regional headquarters in Kumasi, the electoral commission rigged the polls for President Akufo-Addo and the NPP.

The protest is being led by the party’s national woman organizer Dr Hannah Bissiw and the Ashanti regional woman organizer Mrs Gloria Huza.

Hundreds of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in the Ashanti Region have marched to protest the outcome of the 2020 elections.

They are being led by the National Women’s Organiser of the NDC, Hannah Bissiw.

The supporters are clad in black and red attire are protesting the outcome of the just-ended elections.

The planned to march on the Electoral Commission’s (EC) premises but were stopped from entering the EC’s premises at the end of their march by security personnel.

Madam Bissiw in a Citi News interview said they want the EC to rectify errors in the election results and also make peace with aggrieved parties.

“We are Ghanaian women and citizens of this nation, and we voted in the 2020 polls, but we feel that the Electoral Commission rigged the elections in favour of President Akufo-Addo and if we don’t get up, this country would turn into something that we all won’t like it.”

“So we are asking Jean Mensa to come back and sit with the political parties to correct whatever mistakes it did because if she does so, President Akufo-Addo will not be declared president.”

Outcome of 2020 presidential polls

The EC announced President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the winner of the December 7 polls on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, despite concerns raised by the opposition NDC.

Mr. Mahama subsequently declared the party’s unwillingness to accept the outcome of the just ended general elections.

Describing the outcome as the “real stolen verdict,” Mr. Mahama at a press conference on Thursday, December 10, 2020, said the party will audit the outcomes of the poll to inform its next step.
