A/R: Atwima communities living in fear over robbery attacks

Residents of some communities in the Atwima Nwabiagya South district of the Ashanti region are living in a state of fear due to the increasing robbery attacks on them.

The Assembly Member for Atwima  Koforidua Electoral Area, Hon. Kojo Ansere confirmed in an interview with  Otec news’ Jacob Agyenim Boateng that residents of Atwima Koforidua, Atwima Manhyia,  Nyankyerenease, Bokankye and Esaase have been experiencing robbery attacks lately.

One of the robbery victims, a trader at Atwima Koforidua, who wanted to remain unanimous, said he was attacked by four men around 8:30:00 pm on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, when he had closed from work and was heading home.

According to him, the alleged robbers were dressed in only boxer shorts and black masks.

He explained that the masked robbers who were wielding knives and guns attacked him at Atwima Koforidua New site and forcibly took his one thousand Ghana cedis (GHS 1,000) and his mobile phone.

“Several people including students and business persons have been attacked and robbed off their properties at gun and knife points by unknown robbers in the area” he cried out.

The residents have therefore called on Ashanti Regional Police Command to help curb the menace as the community watch groups created by the affected communities could not deal with the situation.

For his part, Assembly Member for Atwima Manhyia Electoral Area Hon. Kennedy Osei expressed worry over the situation.

He underscored the need for a collaborative effort between community members, opinion leaders and the security agencies in the district to control the situation.
