Breast cancer: BCI boss urges church leaders to encourage their members to seek early medical attention

The President of Breast Care International (BCI), Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai, has appealed to church leaders to encourage their members to seek early medical attention anytime they experience health complications.

Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai admitted that prayers play important role in the treatments of diseases but that can be done as complements while the patients are being administered with medications at the hospitals.

Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai made the appeal during a breast cancer education and screening exercise at the Dichemso branch of the Christ Apostolic Church International (CACI) in Kumasi, Ashanti region, on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

The exercise was organized by the Women’s Ministry and Prayer Group of Dichemso CACI to celebrate the October Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

During the education, Dr Wiafe Addai dispelled the wrong notion that breast cancer is caused by witchcraft, and therefore should not be treated by resorting to prayer camps and application of herbal medicines.

Dr Wiafe Addai who is also the CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals pointed out to them that the causal agents of the disease have not been established so it has no traces of witchcrafts or curses.

“Disease like breast cancer are not caused by witchcraft or any curses, so please use your pulpits to educate your members to seek early medical treatments anytime they experience any complication, afterwards they can seek prayers,” she pleaded with church leaders.

Since the cause of breast cancer is not known, women must go for early and prompt clinical screening on breast cancer detection and medication.

Dr Wiafe Addai revealed that the rate women are dying of breast cancer in Ghana is alarming, demanding that every female from age 12 must undergo screening irrespective of their health status to avoid any catastrophe.

“The disease is detectable, preventable, treatable and curable. Contracting the disease is not a death warrant, many woman have survived the disease so you, if you report the disease early,” she assured.

The President of the Dichemso Women’s Ministry of the Christ Apostolic Church International (CACI), Mrs Leticia Mensah, was thankful to Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe for her insightful knowledge and education on breast cancer.

She promised to propagate the education acquired on the disease to the members, homes and work place to reduce the breast cancer rate among the women.
