Dengue Fever Alert: Public Health Director lists major symptoms to watch out for

The Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Franklin Asiedu Bekoe, has warned the public to be on the lookout for major symptoms of dengue fever, a serious and potentially life-threatening illness.

 Dr. Bekoe noted that while dengue fever shares similar symptoms with malaria, it is much more severe and can lead to bleeding from the nose, cough, fecal matter, and vomit if left untreated.

He emphasized that individuals with severe dengue are likely to succumb to the virus if immediate treatment is not sought.

Other symptoms to watch out for include, High temperature (around 38 degrees Celsius, Frontal headach, Running stoma and  Rashes

Dr. Bekoe revealed that Ghana has not yet recorded any cases of severe dengue fever but urged the public to remain vigilant.

He stressed the importance of protecting oneself from mosquito bites, the primary cause of the virus, to prevent contraction.
