NPP to petition AG over alleged “illegal transfer” of votes in Manhyia South

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has said he will petition the Attorney General over what he describes as some illegal voter transfer in the constituency.

The move comes after Baffour Awuah petitioned the Electoral Commission (EC) over some voter transfers in the constituency.

A Kumasi magistrate court on Tuesday (24 September) ordered the reversal of some of these vote transfers.

According to the NPP parliamentary candidate for Manhyia South, the basis of his objection was that the over 500 voter transfers involved persons who, he claimed, do not live in the Manhyia South.

He said the transfer was deliberately orchestrated to increase the votes of the opposition NDC in Manhyia South ahead of the 7 December polls.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday ( 25 September), Baffour Awuah said those involved in the illegal transfer of votes must be prosecuted if found culpable.

”Indeed, as we speak, I am putting together a petition to the Attorney General’s Office to prosecute all those involved including the main person behind these transfers.”

”… Because this is an organised transfer with the purpose of assisting the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to increase their votes in the upcoming elections in Manhyia South.”

”You know, we need to deter people from committing such offences in our society so that we can have, a very high degree of integrity when it comes to the electoral process,” he added.
