A/R: BOG organizes two-day capacity building on financial and business reporting for journalists
A two-day media capacity building on financial and business reporting organised by the Bank of Ghana (BOG) for journalists in the Ashanti has ended in Kumasi.
It formed part of BOG’s efforts to ensure that the media accurately interprets and reports on economic issues, monetary policy decisions and their implications.
The media capacity workshop started on Thursday, October 17, 2024, and ended on Friday, October 17.
Topics covered during the workshop included Monetary Policy Practice in Ghana, Understanding Inflation Dynamics, and Developments in Foreign Exchange.
Others were Macroeconomic Analysis and Significance of Macroeconomic Indicators, Interpreting MPC Data Pack, and the Concept of Next of Kin.
During the two days of training, the officials from the BOG took time to explain to the journalists the technical economics terms that were mind-bothering.
The Director of Communications at the Bank of Ghana, Bernard Otabil, in his opening remarks said the workshop offers the chance for journalists to understand the operations of BOG.
“By this, journalists will be in strong positions to disseminate accurate information about the activities of BOG to enhance the developmental process of the country,” he stated.
Mr Otabil further craved the indulgence of the media to fact-check any mind-bothering information on economic policies with the BOG before putting across to avoid mis/disinformation.
The Ashanti Regional President of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), Kingsley E. Hope, commended the management of the Bank of Ghana for putting up such an educative workshop.
He stated that the program “will enhance the skills and knowledge in monetary practice, understand Ghana’s economic landscape, and offer the media opportunity to explore innovative story-telling techniques.”
Mr Kingsley Hope appealed to the BOG to frequently organize such events to boost media knowledge and skills in business and financial reporting.
