I’m Committed To Women Empowerment – John Mahama

John Mahama, NDC Presidential candidate

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama says he is profusely committed to everything that would ensure the empowerment of Ghanaian women.

Addressing party supporters and the public at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) where the party was outdooring its women’s manifesto, Mr Mahama said the NDC believes women are the best home keepers.

The recognition of women’s role, the former President stated makes it imperative for the country to make things easy for them to attend to their responsibilities.

“The NDC as a party recognises the crucial role women play in the scheme of things in the home and the country and has thus designed the Women Bank to provide resource and capital for women so they can be industrious to support the home and nation building “, the former President stressed.

Other Initiatives:

The former President noted that the NDC plans to build educational facilities such as creche and kindergartens close to markets centers across the country when it wins power on December 7.

This, he explained would ensure that kids of traders as well as market women get education while allowing their mothers to work.

The Former President also mentioned the setting up of mobile health clinics to attend to traders at markets centers across the country.

“The NDC realises that traders especially market women due to their daily routine do not get the chance to test to know their health statuses and so the NDC plans to set up such avenues so issues of breast and cervical cancers could be screened and attended to”, the former President indicated.

Running Mate:

Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, the vice presidential candidate of the NDC commended Ghanaian women for showing tenacity despite enduring hard times currently.

She said the NDC promises to work towards relieving them from the burdens of poverty and unemployment.

Professor Agyemang said the Women Bank as proposed by the NDC flag-bearer is aimed at resourcing them to become useful to their homes and communities.

“The NDC is the only party that is truly and consciously committed to the welfare of the Ghanaian women and has designed initiatives to make them useful to their families and the society”, the Vice-Presidential candidate stated.

National Women’s Organiser:

On her part, Mrs Hannah Louisa Bissiw, National Women’s Organiser for the NDC asked Ghanaian women to be hopeful about the future of Ghana.

She asked them to vote for the NDC to enable the party implement the empowerment and job creation policies its flag-bearer was promising.

NDC Ashanti Regional Secretary:

Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC commended the women’s wing for initiating plans to explain the women’s manifesto to the public.

He also thanked the former President for showing commitment for the welfare and wellbeing of people in the Ashanti Region.

“It is interesting to note that in the Ashanti Region everything that fosters trade and marketing was carried out under the NDC led by President Mahama including the construction of the Kejetia Redeveloped Market phase 1 project as well as the Atonsu, Tafo, Asawase and Abinkyi markets”, the Secretary mentioned.
