5G must fuel progress, not threaten data security – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to use 5G technology responsibly and avoid actions that could hinder progress in the nation’s digital transformation.

He delivered this message at the official launch of Ghana’s high-speed 5G internet service on Thursday, November 1, 2024, in Accra.

The service, led by NextGen Infraco, aims to harness 5G to boost key economic sectors for sustainable growth.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized that while 5G brings tremendous opportunities, it must not become a gateway for cybersecurity or data privacy issues.

He encouraged users and regulators alike to remain vigilant against potential digital threats, ensuring the technology contributes positively to Ghana’s development.

“The journey ahead requires vigilance and responsibility. 5G is a powerful catalyst for shaping Ghana’s future and, with its powers, comes with a responsibility to use it wisely.

“We must address concerns around data privacy, cyber security and responsible use to ensure that the 5G fosters unity and not division. The youth who make up the population stand to benefit immensely from this digital era,” he stated.
