Adutwum exhorts graduates to develop growth and possibility mindset
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, has asked graduates to adopt a growth mindset as they step into the world.
He said that that mindset would help them navigate the ever-evolving career landscape and set a solid foundation for long-term success, no matter where they went.
Dr. Adutwum gave the advice in a speech read for him by Dr. Eric Nkansah, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, at the 32nd Congregation of Valley View University at Oyibi near Accra.
820 graduates, including eight PhDs, were awarded undergraduate and postgraduate degrees during the ceremony.
In addition to adopting a growth mindset, Dr. Adutwum urged the graduates to develop soft skills, such as interpersonal and communication skills, which would serve as a guiding compass throughout their life journey.
He also advised them not to let their circumstances define them, but to always strive to create positive change in their communities by utilizing their acquired knowledge, skills, and talents.
“Your degree is not just a testament to what you have learned in school, but your ability to learn, adapt, and contribute to society. It is not for nothing that we say that university education is a universal one.
“The world is evolving and evolving rapidly, and you must adapt and grow with it. Embrace change, stay curious, and never stop seeking knowledge.
“Remember, education is not confined to the four walls of the classroom, but extends to every aspect of our lives,” he said.
Professor William Kofi Koomson, Vice Chancellor of the Valley View University, advised the graduates to commit to upholding the highest standards of excellence, integrity and service instilled in them by the University.
“With your relevant degrees, you are now ready to join our alumni community to begin to contribute to your university, immediate community, our beloved country, and the world at large.
“We just don’t wish you contribute, we pray you lead, share your ideas, and participate in making your country greater and the world a safe and better place, as we keep the watch for the soon coming King,” he said.
The University awarded plaques to the best graduating students in each department and presented a laptop to Mr. Raymond Kwaku Boateng, a BA Theological Studies graduate, for being the overall best graduating student.
