Former President John Dramani Mahama has criticized the NPP government, attributing the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to the government’s mismanagement of the country over the past eight years.
This significant setback marks the first time in over two decades that Ghana has failed to qualify for the AFCON.
Speaking at a mini rally in Afigya Kwabre East, Ashanti region, Mahama emphasized that the NPP’s mismanagement has led to the collapse of various sectors, including the Black Stars’ inability to qualify for AFCON.
He noted that even Sudan has qualified, leaving Ghana behind.
Mahama warned that if the NPP is not voted out, Ghana risks failing to qualify for the World Cup next year.
The Black Stars’ failure to qualify for AFCON has sent shockwaves across the nation, with many Ghanaians expressing disappointment and frustration.
The team’s poor performance has sparked debates about the state of Ghanaian football and the need for reforms. Mahama’s comments have added to the growing calls for change and accountability within the football governing bodies and the government.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has apologized to Ghanaians for the team’s failure to qualify, acknowledging the disappointment and frustration caused.
The GFA has promised to take steps to address the issues and ensure that the team returns to its former glory .
As the debate continues, one thing is clear: the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for AFCON is a wake-up call for Ghanaian football, and it requires collective effort and accountability to restore the team’s pride and glory.
