Police gun down armed robber in Wenchi Municipality

A dramatic shootout between police and armed robbers in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region has resulted in the death of one of the robbers.

The incident occurred on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at approximately 3:40 am.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of four armed robbers stormed the road along the Awisa cemetery, attacking a Sprinter bus and a Yutong bus.

 The robbers proceeded to rob the passengers on board.

A police patrol team, which was in the area, quickly responded to the scene.

 However, upon arrival, the armed men opened fire on the officers.

 The police returned fire, and in the ensuing exchange, one of the robbers was gunned down.

The remaining robbers managed to escape into the nearby bushes.

 Police retrieved several items from the scene, including a locally manufactured single-barrel gun, a student bag containing two Itel mobile phones, a power bank, six BB cartridges, and an undisclosed amount of money.

The body of the deceased robber has been deposited at the mortuary.

 As of the time of filing this report, the police had not commented on the incident.

The swift response by the police has been commended by residents in the area, who expressed relief that the situation was brought under control.
