Techiman South Parliamentary Seat: High Court throws out NDC’s election petition

Member of Parliament for Techiman South Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah

A High Court in Techiman has reportedly dismissed an election petition challenging the victory of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Techiman South Constituency, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, in the 2024 election.

According to Asaase FM, the petition was filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Christopher Beyere.

The media house, in a post shared on X on Friday, March 7, 2025, stated that the court ruled that the petition was invalid.

“The High Court Techiman has dismissed the election petition filed by the NDC parliamentary candidate, Christopher Beyere, challenging the election of Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah as being invalid,” it wrote.

Adjei-Mensah Korsah, a former Minister of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was re-declared the winner of the 2024 parliamentary election for the Techiman South Constituency in the Bono Region after a High Court nullified an initial declaration.

The Techiman South Constituency was one of the nine constituencies whose results were outstanding.

According to the Electoral Commission, the returning officer for the constituency was assaulted and forced to declare the results in favour of the National Democratic Congress candidate, Christopher Beyere Baasongti.

The Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, stated that the declaration for the constituency could not stand and ordered a re-collation of the results.

“The returning officer and other staff were physically assaulted and forced to re-declare the results at gunpoint. It is important to note that the collation process had not been completed. There also, the Commission would not uphold those processes,” she noted.

At the Greater Accra Regional Office, where the re-collation was done, on Saturday, December 21, 2024, the returning officer for the constituency announced that Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and incumbent MP for the area, won the election with 46,663 votes.

NDC’s Christopher Beyere Baasongti came in second with 43,429 of the total votes cast.
