Proliferation of politically infested institutions is the reason for Ghana’s economic struggles- Dr. Fokuo Kwarteng

A Senior lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Solomon Forkuo Kwarteng, has attributed Ghana’s economic struggles to the proliferation of politically infested institutions.

According to Dr. Forkuo Kwarteng, key institutions that should be driven by expertise are instead dominated by political appointees, prioritizing wealth accumulation for political gain over efficiency and effectiveness.

Dr. Solomon Forkuo Kwarteng’s comments came in response to the National Disaster Management Organization’s (NADMO) recent donation of food items to victims of the devastating fire at Kumasi Adum Blue Light Arena.

The affected traders rejected the aid, emphasizing their need for reconstruction rather than food.

This incident has sparked public scrutiny of NADMO’s competency and decision-making processes.

The fire, which occurred on March 21, 2025, destroyed several shops, properties, and cash, leaving over 2,900 traders without income.

Dr. Solomon Forkuo Kwarteng, during a panel discussion on Otec FM’s morning show, “Nyansapo,” hosted by Isaac Osei Akoto on Friday, argued that “a competent NADMO would have conducted feasibility studies to understand the victims’ needs.”

He alleged that successive governments have prioritized appointing loyalists without qualifications to key positions, perpetuating a cycle of inefficiency and corruption.

“Instead of appointing qualified and competent staff, all successive governments have appointed their own people without qualification to occupy various positions at NADMO, all in the name of amassing wealth to fund political party campaigns to win elections,” he emphasized.
