Dollar drama: NPP wants Sammy Gyamfi interdicted, questions President Mahama’s silence

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is pushing for the immediate interdiction of Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).

This call follows a viral video showing the government appointee and spokesperson of the ruling NDC handing out bundles of U.S. dollars to controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa.

Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP’s National Organiser, made the demand at a news conference on Tuesday (13 May) arguing that Gyamfi should be removed from his role to allow for a full investigation.

“We also call on the President to immediately interdict Mr Sammy Gyamfi as acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board — or at least, he should interdict him pending the conduct of the investigation by the criminal investigation authorities of the state,” Boakye said.

The video, which surfaced on social media on May 10, shows Gyamfi seated in his Range Rover, handing out bundles of cash to Nana Agradaa, a self-styled preacher with a controversial history.

Boakye drew a comparison between this incident and the case of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah, who resigned after reports of large sums of money being stolen from her residence.

“We cannot but remember when huge sums of money were reported to have been stolen from the residence of Madam Cecilia Dapaah, a woman who had worked in high places for over forty years… married to a well-known, wealthy architect and consultant with nearly sixty years’ experience,” Boakye noted.

He highlighted that Dapaah stepped aside during investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) under the previous administration, ensuring accountability.

“Investigations were duly conducted by the OSP against Madam Cecilia Dapaah and her husband after what the OSP described as seven months of extensive investigation and four months of collaborative inquiry,” he added.
