Police rescue victims in viral kidnapping case, eight arrested

The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and the Nigeria Police Force, has successfully rescued two female victims who were kidnapped and featured in a viral video.

The chilling footage, which captured the victims in distress, had sparked widespread public outrage and concern.

In a joint operation, eight suspects have been apprehended in connection with the kidnapping, with arrests made in both Ghana and Nigeria. The suspects were located at various hideouts across the two countries, with law enforcement agencies working together seamlessly to track and capture the perpetrators.

A statement from the Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrests and rescue, while indicating that further details of the rescue operation would be shared in due course as investigations continue.

“The Ghana Police Service extends its heartfelt gratitude to the National Signals Bureau and the Nigeria Police Force for their invaluable support and cooperation in both the rescue and arrest operations,” the statement read.

A 39-year-old woman at Asiakwa in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region was allegedly kidnapped by unknown men. The victim, Ama Serwaa Konadu, a popular hairdresser and event decorator in the area, was abducted on Tuesday, April 22, when she left her home to work.

Her abductors, the next day, released several nude videos of her through her phone to family members, assaulting her in the video with a machete.

Her abductors, who claimed to be holding her in Nigeria, demanded a GH₵500,000 ransom before they release her.

The family lodged a formal complaint with the Ghana Police Service and sister security and intelligence agencies, making available to them all the videos to aid their investigations.
