World Hypertension Month: GHS to Screen Over 1 Million Ghanaians for High Blood Pressure

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is set to check the blood pressure of over one million Ghanaians as part of activities to mark World Hypertension Month.

The initiative aims to create awareness about the dangers of high blood pressure and reduce sudden deaths.

Ashanti Regional Health Director, Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng, has urged the public to visit wellness centers to check their blood pressure.

Dr. Boateng noted that high blood pressure is a silent killer, with one out of every five persons suffering from hypertension without being aware.

The GHS is intensifying education on hypertension to save lives.

Although World Hypertension Day was marked on May 17, 2025, the May Measurement Month initiative runs from May 1 to July 31, emphasizing the importance of better prevention, detection, and treatment of high blood pressure.

The theme is “Measure your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer.”
