Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Bernard Antwi Boasiako
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has visited the former Vice President and 2024 Presidential Candidate of the party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, at his office in Accra following his release from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The visit was shared in a viral post on social media.
It took place on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, as part of a series of engagements by Chairman Wontumi to express gratitude to party leadership for their support during his detention.
Earlier that day, he also visited the NPP headquarters to thank the party’s executives.
Chairman Wontumi was released from EOCO custody after meeting his bail conditions on Monday, June 2, 2025.
The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua, confirmed his release during an interview with the media on the evening of Monday, June 2, 2025.
Chairman Wontumi was granted bail to the tune of GH¢50 million with two sureties to be justified, following his arrest on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. He is currently under investigation for alleged fraud, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.
