NPP’s Flagbearer Polls Date Premature, Change It – Addai Nimo

A former presidential aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon. Francis Addai Nimo, has expressed concerns over the party’s decision to hold its flagbearer polls on January 31st.

According to Nimo, the decision is premature and may not yield positive results for the party.

Nimo believes that shifting the flagbearer race to the second half of 2026 and focusing on building the party’s structures would be a better option for the NPP.

Speaking on OTEC 102.9 FM’s afternoon political show “Dwabrem” in Kumasi, on Wednesday, Nimo emphasized that the party should have worked on its constitutional review before proceeding with the presidential primaries.

“The party’s constitution states it clearly that the party has not later than 24 months to elect its flagbearer, so why the rush?” Nimo questioned.

He noted that rushing the process of selecting leaders, especially at a time when the party is struggling to unite its base, may have dire consequences on the party’s fortune.

Nimo urged the party to reconsider the decision and change the date for the presidential primaries, emphasizing that a more deliberate approach would ultimately benefit the party.

He stressed the importance of building strong party structures and ensuring a united front ahead of the elections.
