24 Hour Economy cannot be a substantive policy– Manhyia South MP blasts NDC Govt

Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour, Member of Parliament for Manhyia South

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour, says it’s laughable for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to present a 24-hour economy as a substantive policy.

The MP believes the 24-hour economy can only be an effect and not a major policy.

Speaking to OTEC News on Monday, the MP described the policy as problematic, adding that it will take supply and demand for actors in the economy to operate within a particular time frame.

“Nobody tells a shop to operate at 1:00 a.m., they do it because they have people patronizing,” and so, “24-hour economy cannot be a substantive policy; it’s quite problematic when you set off that you want to operate such a policy with the view to turn around the economy.”

He said, “Economics is simply demand and supply, and so 24-hour economy can only be an effect.”

The MP noted that there ought to be continuity in the country’s economic policies to avoid wasting taxpayers’ money.

He urged politicians to focus on continuing existing projects and policies that benefit the masses and halt creating new ones.
