Kumasi: Fire Ravages Anomangye Market, about 200 of Shops Destroyed

A fierce fire has swept through the Anomangye Market in the Ashanti Region, leaving traders counting their losses after properties worth thousands of cedis were destroyed.

The devastating fire reportedly destroyed about 200 shops leaving traders in distress

The incident occurred in the early hours of the day and spread quickly due to the wooden structures and congested layout of the market.

Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Peter Tetteh, explained that firefighters received the alarm late and faced challenges in containing the blaze because the nearest hydrants were far from the scene.

He revealed that 192 sheds and 44 shops were completely burnt, while only 19 shops were salvaged adding that Authorities are yet to determine the exact cause of the fire, but investigations are underway.

Mr. Tetteh added that the market’s structural arrangement made it difficult for fire crews to gain access to the affected areas.
