NPP expands voter register for 2026 presidential primaries

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the inclusion of additional categories of officials and dignitaries in its voter register for the upcoming Presidential Primaries, slated for Saturday, January 31, 2026.

In a statement issued from the party’s headquarters in Accra, the NPP said the decision was made in accordance with Article 13(1)(11) of the party’s constitution and transitional provisions adopted at the National Annual Delegates Conference held on July 19, 2025.
The expanded register introduces 19 new categories of delegates, including:
All former Regional and Constituency Executives
Members of the National Council of Elders and the National Council of Patrons
All former MPs and Parliamentary Candidates who were party card-bearers
Past National Officers and Executives of External Branches
TESCON leaders, including Presidents from tertiary institutions, National and Regional Coordinators, and Patrons
Former Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and MMDCEs with valid party membership
Representatives from the Regional and Constituency Councils of Elders and Patrons
Party insiders say the move is aimed at broadening participation, strengthening inclusivity, and reflecting the party’s evolving leadership structure.
The 2026 presidential primary is widely expected to be one of the most competitive in the NPP’s history, as leading figures prepare to contest for the flagbearer slot ahead of the December 2028 general elections.
