MTN launches easy self-service SIM swap

The MTN Ghana has unveiled Easy Self-Service SIM Swap that will allow customers to swap their SIM cards by themselves without going to an MTN office

The General Manager Mr Nii Mingle announced during a brief ceremony at MTN office at Adum PZ on Wednesday,11th March 2026

The General Manager speaking during the launching, noted that the Easy Sim Swap will allow MTN users to replace their Sim cards without stress as it was in the past

He stated, “in the past, customers had to visit service centers and join long queues to swap their SIM cards, revealing that, now, customers only need to buy a blank SIM card from an MTN shop or an authorized dealer. After that, they enter the SIM card serial number and follow a verification process to connect the new SIM to their old phone number.”

According to Mr Nii, the new system uses facial biometric verification, which means the customer’s face is used to confirm their identity.

This according to him will make the process safer and help prevent fraud or criminals from stealing someone’s SIM.

He also revealed that the system works with the National Identification Authority to make sure the information is correct.

The General Manager for MTN Ghana explained further during his speech

On the part of Abubakar Sadiq Awal who spoke on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, he commended MTN for such an insightful initiative, citing that it will help enhance customer experience

He added that the initiative will help eradicate long queues that customers have to join to replace their Sim cards in the past
