A group of concerned polling station executives, constituency election officials and other stakeholders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Adansi Asokwa Constituency have rejected the National Steering Committee’s decision to annul the constituency executive elections, insisting that the move breached the party’s own constitutional procedures and election guidelines.

Addressing a press conference, the group maintained that while they remained loyal members of the NPP and respected the authority of the National Steering Committee, they could not accept the annulment without what they described as a transparent and lawful process.

“Our position is not one of defiance. It is one of fidelity to the Party’s Constitution, the Election Guidelines and the democratic values upon which the New Patriotic Party has been built,” the stakeholders declared.

The National Steering Committee on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, announced the annulment of the Adansi Asokwa Constituency Executive Elections, which were held on July 11, citing what it described as a flagrant disregard for party directives, election regulations and, where applicable, subsisting court orders.

However, the stakeholders argued that the committee’s statement failed to provide any specific details relating to Adansi Asokwa, including the alleged party directives that were violated, the evidence relied upon, any investigations conducted or any court order affecting the constituency.

“The annulment of an election is among the most consequential decisions that can be taken within any democratic institution. Such a decision must be founded upon clear facts, credible evidence and strict adherence to the Party’s own Constitution and Election Guidelines,” they stated.

The group further contended that the NPP’s 2026 Constituency Executive Election Guidelines provide a clear dispute resolution process, beginning with petitions to the Constituency Appeals Committee, followed by appeals to the Regional Steering Committee and finally the National Steering Committee.

According to them, no petition challenging the Adansi Asokwa elections was filed with the Constituency Appeals Committee during the stipulated appeal period, making the National Steering Committee’s intervention procedurally questionable.

“We state categorically that no petition challenging the conduct of the Adansi Asokwa Constituency Executive Elections was lodged before the Constituency Appeals Committee during the prescribed appeal period,” they said.

The stakeholders also questioned whether the affected candidates or the constituency election committee were given an opportunity to respond before the annulment was announced.

“Justice is not determined solely by the decision reached. Justice is equally measured by the fairness of the process through which that decision is made,” the statement stressed, adding that no evidence was disclosed and no hearing was granted before the decision was taken.

The group challenged the National Steering Committee to disclose the complaints it relied on, identify the individuals who submitted them, explain the investigations conducted and specify the provisions of the party’s constitution or election regulations that were allegedly breached.

They also questioned the legal basis upon which the committee assumed jurisdiction if the established appeal procedures under the election guidelines had not been followed.

According to the stakeholders, the issue extends beyond Adansi Asokwa and touches on the credibility of the NPP’s internal democratic processes.

“If every member is expected to comply with the Election Guidelines, should not every organ of the Party, including the National Steering Committee, be equally bound by those Guidelines?” they asked.

The group called on the National Steering Committee to review its decision, disclose the factual and legal basis for the annulment and ensure that all affected parties are granted a fair hearing before any final determination is made.

“Transparency strengthens authority. Due process promotes unity. Let us therefore uphold the principles that have always defined our great Party,” the stakeholders concluded.
