NPP’s Asante Mampong Parliamentary hopeful Nana Yaa dies

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the party’s parliamentary hopeful for the Asante Mampong Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Beatrice Owarewaa Siaw, popularly known as Nana Yaa, has died, according to close family sources.
Sources told OTECNews that the 41-year-old drove to a clinic in Mampong after falling ill on Saturday morning, August 8. She was subsequently referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
In recent weeks, she had been in the media spotlight following a disagreement with the Asante Mampong Municipal Assembly over the redevelopment of Tadiem Park into an AstroTurf facility.
She had accused the Assembly of obstructing the project, which she said was initiated to provide a modern recreational facility for residents of the community.
The Municipal Assembly, however, maintained that she had failed to obtain the necessary approvals before commencing work on the project.
Her death has thrown the NPP fraternity in the Asante Mampong Constituency into shock and mourning.
Her body has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital as the family begins arrangements for her burial.
